Upgrade Process
How do I start?
The upgrade will start automatically and run in the background on your laptop. You will not be interrupted until the download is complete and your laptop needs to be restarted.
You can view the update status by opening the windows Start Menu and searching for "Windows Update"
How long does it take?
The download takes about one hour and runs in the background. This means you can continue working while the download runs.
Once DOWNLOADED, the update will begin to INSTALL. This also takes place in the background, and you may still view the status in the "Windows Update" menu.
Can I wait?
You can delay the install until you are done for the day or have finished a work cycle. Once you choose to restart, however, you must wait for the upgrade to complete installing. This install will take about one hour.
Once all the pre-restart steps have been completed, the update console will prompt for a restart. You will see a restart notice in the bottom right of your screen with a yellow alert (seen below)
Clicking this alert will take you to the "Restart Now" option.
What about my files?
Your files are stored in your OneDrive and will move seamlessly. To aid in this process, please close and save your documents prior to the restart. Also check your OneDrive to confirm it is syncing. If you need assistance, please reach out to IT to confirm.
